In the footsteps of the dinosaurs

Meeting the first visitors to Emosson. Long before man was interested in the hydroelectric potential of the region, visitors of another kind and from another time frequented the location: DINOSAURS!

Old Emosson geological trail

Footprints

Throughout the trail, you will find footprints dating back more than 240 million years. There is still scientific interest in the site and analyses continue to be carried out in order to determine what created them.

After all, the age of the land stretches back even further than the time of the dinosaurs. The footprints could belong to primitive reptiles: the ancestors of the dinosaurs. The footprints are usually visible from mid-July onwards.

This educational trail was completely updated in 2015 with the help of the Geneva Museum of Natural History and the participation of the Canton of Valais and the Swiss Confederation. The route is fully marked and mapped.

At the mid-way point, you can visit La Cabane du Vieux-Emosson to get a bite to eat.
