The Trient water intake, partially renovated in 2017 following a destructive avalanche, is located downstream of the Trient glacier on the Trient stream. It is the last EAST collector intake after the Esserts reservoir.
The intake is located at an altitude of 1554.6 metres. Its catchment area covers 18.3 km². On the right bank, the intake is equipped with a purge valve. It is a WARTMANN type platform with a height of 3.7 metres and width of 1.5 metres. The valve is controlled by a hydraulic cylinder controlled either locally or remotely from the Bâtiaz control room.
The water is conveyed towards a 50-metre-long grit trap which is 2 metres wide on its lower part and 4.5 metres wide on its upper part. This is fitted with an automatic MOLBERT-type clogging probe and a BOURNE-type flush valve.
A venturi equipped with an ENDRESS HAUSER measurement system measures the diverted flow. At the exit of the venturi, the tunnel follows an 80% slope over 17 metres before emerging into the EAST collector.
Like the Saleina intake, the intake and the grit trap become clogged during storms or high flow rates. It needs to be opened in such an event. Sometimes up to several times a day.
