Vertic'Alp - with the funicular to the Emosson dam

A memorable climb and breathtaking experience on the Vertic'Alp funicular to discover Switzerland's second-largest dam in the Valais!

The journey

There are several ways to get to the Emosson dam, including one that's unique in the Valais.

When the Barberine dam was built in the 1920s, a funicular railway was built to facilitate the transport of equipment and workers. When the work was completed, the funicular became a tourist attraction, much to the delight of tourists wishing to explore the area around the dam!

Today, Vertic'Alp still allows you to use the same railroad line, with freshly renovated facilities. A climbing adventure not to be missed, and a unique experience to share with friends and family!

Access and departure area

Those wishing to enjoy a unique experience in the Valais region around the dam can use the three rail-based installations available to them:

  • Châtelard funicular
  • Panoramic train
  • Minifunicular
